Cape Town
Area Overview
Cape Town is one of the world's favourite holiday destinations. With pristine beaches, a buzzing café culture, great restaurants, a working harbour, unique nature reserves, popular landmarks and suburban vineyards there is much to enjoy.
If you plan to visit South Africa, chances are you've got Cape Town at the top of your list of places to go. And well you might, the second largest city in South Africa is easily reached from all over the world and the perfect place to start your South African holiday.
Surrounded by Blue Flag beaches, unique nature reserves and award-winning wine farms it's no wonder Cape Town is one of the world's favourite holiday destinations.
Behind the thousand-metre Table Mountain is a series of peaks known as the Twelve Apostles. Arguably more photogenic that its flat-topped sibling, the Apostles chain provides shelter for stray clouds, its gullies sustain an evergreen sheen of life and the whole lot looks out over the azure sea and pure white sands of Camps Bay, Clifton and Llandudno. A Big Sur road winds along the coast circumventing the entire peninsula with a view at every corner.
On the other side of the mountain are the city and the harbour, bristling with semi-busy Capetonians in glamorous repose at strategically-placed streetside cafés.
Further south along the Cape Peninsula you will find some of South Africa's oldest wine farms in scenic vales at the foot of these ever-present mountains; beyond that: more beaches, mountains, forests, nature reserves and a daisy-chain of charming seaside towns.
Some of the popular attractions in Cape Town include:
Robben Island - UNESCO World Heritage Site
Table Mountain (hike up, cable car down if you can) - UNESCO World Heritage Site
Cape Point Nature Reserve and Boulders Beach penguins
Township tours - a surprisingly uplifting experience and an essential companion to Robben Island and a tour of the historical museums and landmarks of Cape Town.
Constantia Winelands
Atlantic beaches (Bantry Bay, Clifton, Camps Bay, Llandudno)
Simon's Town and False Bay beaches (Muizenberg, Fishhoek, Boulder's Beach)
Good Hope Castle
Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
V&A Waterfront
Museums, galleries, shows and markets

Transfer to Garonga Safari Camp
Kruger National Park
Area Overview
All the iconic animals hang out in Kruger - elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, hippo and zebra. Many, many more mammals and over 500 varieties of bird bask in the African sun. It’s a big ole space, more than 19,000 square kilometres.
Early man once roamed these parts. Bits of their life have been stumbled upon, some thought to be 100 000 years old. The San Bushmen had a wander too. Their rock doodles a lasting legacy.
Day 4 - 5
Transfer to Cape Town Airport where you board a direct flight to Kruger National Park (own arrangement).
On arrival at Hoedspruit Airport you are met by the ranger of your lodge and enjoy a short transfer to the accommodation.
This afternoon you join your first safari in this Big 5 wildlife reserve. Every morning and evening, guests are taken on a game drive. The animals are habituated to the vehicle, which means that they are used to the vehicle approaching them and know that it never causes them harm. This enables to you to get within 5 to 10 metres of the larger predators; even while they're feasting on a recent kill.
The night drives allow guests the opportunity to see the nocturnal animals not encountered during the day. Your chances of seeing leopard in particular are a lot higher at night and with a bit of luck you might even encounter the predators such as lion and leopard hunting. During the night drives, your tracker uses a powerful spotlight to search for nocturnal animals.
Most lodges have a waterhole that attract a number of species during the day and night, so regular sightings of warthog, baboons, elephants, even lions and leopards in front of the lodge can be enjoyed.
Meal times will be a highlight on your safari stay. Enjoy hearty brunches, al fresco lunches and social dinners with lovely cuisine. End your day with a drink around the camp fire under the African starlit sky.
